US Open around the Corner, Bethpage Looms Menacingly

June 17, 2009 - Written by Glen

The Bethpage "Black" course is known as one of the hardest golf courses ever. They do, in fact, have a disclaimer and a warning side leading up to it. This sign says that the course is extremely difficult and should not be attempted by anyone under the professional level. As such, the US open will take place here.

The New York based course was used in 2002, and Tiger Woods was the winner then. Will Woods do it again? That is the question. His win last time through was done with a busted up leg, so perhaps his performance will be even better this year. Regardless, the odds favor Tiger above the others. The current record for US open victories is 4, and Tiger is on 3. This could be a history making event.

Woods is the strong favorite, running at the odds of +150. Phil Mickelson stands behind him at +800. Mickelson has had an emotional season, as his spouse has fallen ill with cancer. His return to the course has been long in the making, and he will be giving his New York fan base a huge show.

Ogilvy is the third choice for oddsmakers, stationed at +1500. The tournament begins the 18th and should run no longer than the following Sunday. This is bound to be an electrifying match up, so make sure to check it out.
